WDR Radio Choir Cologne

The repertoire of the WDR Rundfunkchor Köln ranges from music from the Middle Ages to contemporary compositions, from sacred music to operettas, from large oratorios with orchestra to solo vocal ensembles. The choir's interest in contemporary music deserves special mention: more than 140 premieres and first performances were on the programme.

The WDR Rundfunkchor Köln was founded in 1948 and is a professional choir with 48 singers. Rupert Huber, who has been working with the WDR Rundfunkchor Köln since 1986, took up his post as chief conductor in 2004. Former principal conductors were Bernhard Zimmermann, Herbert Schernus, Helmuth Froschauer and Anton Marik. The WDR Rundfunkchor Köln is a regular guest at international festivals such as: Berlin and Vienna Festivals, Festival de Música de Canarias, Salzburg Festival, Stockholm Festival, Venice Biennale, Festival MUSICA in Strasbourg, Flanders Festival; concert tours have also taken him to New York, Zurich, Milan, Paris, London, Tallinn, Athens, Rome, Brussels, Geneva, Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Boston, Cleveland, Washington, Osaka and Tokyo.

On radio and television, in the studio, at concerts and on CD productions, the WDR Rundfunkchor Köln is also 'the voice' of the WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln and the WDR Rundfunkorchester Köln.
