Biography:

Wolfgang Meyer, born in Crailsheim, studied with Otto Hermann in Stuttgart and Hans Deinzer in Hanover. In 1969, and again in 1971 and 1973, he received first prize in the national competition »Jugend musiziert«. In 1 he was awarded the Kranichstein Music Prize, and in 1974 he was a prizewinner at the ARD International Music Competition in Munich with the Syrinx Quintet. This was followed in 1975 by first prize in the German music college competition and first prize in the German music competition in Bonn. Wolfgang Meyer has been teaching at the Musikhochschule Karlsruhe since 1976 and has been rector of this institution since 1.

Wolfgang Meyer performs worldwide as a soloist and chamber musician. As a soloist, he is particularly committed to contemporary works; his chamber music activity is very diverse; numerous vinyl and CD recordings document his repertoire.

Wolfgang Meyer has been working with Nikolaus Harnoncourt since 1996; He is also musically connected to his sister Sabine Meyer, especially in the Trio di Clarone and the Carmina Quartet as well as the Quatuor Mosaïques. Since 2004 he has worked with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra under Claudio Abbado.
