Biography:
The ZKM | Institute for Music and Acoustics (IMA) initiates and promotes compositions and projects that are characterized by the innovative use of technology and aesthetic curiosity. It is one of the leading production sites for electronic music in Europe at the interface of production, mediation and artistic research.
The heart of the IMA is the Klangdom, a dome-shaped set-up consisting of 47 loudspeakers for the development and reproduction of three-dimensional music. In an international guest artist program, the IMA invites composers to create new works.
In its efforts to introduce young people to advanced electronic music, the IMA organizes numerous educational projects and cooperates with international festivals, renowned institutions and composers, artists and orchestras. For example, it awards the Giga Hertz Prize for electronic music, with which it honors outstanding lifetime achievements in the genre as well as artistically innovative projects by younger composers.
The ZKM | Institute for Music and Acoustics works as a department of the ZKM | Karlsruhe and is headed by Ludger Brümmer.
